Overview

Tap Payments can put KNET, mada, Benefit and the other Gulf debit schemes, international cards and regional wallets behind one integration, under its own licence or central-bank permission in every GCC country. It publishes price ceilings in its terms, and its local debit rates start at about 1%. We hold the grade at B- because the published prices are maximums with quote-based discounts, contracts run for a year and auto-renew, the UAE terms let Tap keep an agreed balance for up to two years after you leave, and the reviews that exist describe accounts closed soon after onboarding and funds held for many months, with slow replies from support.

Best for: Businesses selling online in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE or across several GCC markets that need local debit schemes such as KNET and mada alongside cards, Apple Pay and regional buy-now-pay-later from one licensed provider.

Strengths

  • + Licensed or authorised by the central bank in all six GCC countries and in Egypt, so one provider can cover KNET, mada, Benefit and other national schemes
  • + Publishes maximum price tables in its Kuwait, Saudi and UAE terms
  • + Published local debit rates start at about 1%: KNET 1% + 100 fils in Kuwait and mada 1% + 1 SAR in Saudi Arabia
  • + Wide payment-method coverage, including Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, STC Pay, Tabby and Tamara
  • + Kuwait KNET payouts can arrive as soon as the next business day
  • + Ten-working-day cooling-off period on new contracts, and the right to leave without cost when Tap changes its terms

Trade-offs

  • – Contracts run for a year and renew automatically; you need to give 30 days' written notice
  • – Published prices are ceilings, so what you pay depends on negotiation, and the setup or monthly fee can reach 500 KD or 5,000 SAR
  • – UAE payouts arrive five days after the transaction, and USD payouts only weekly
  • – The UAE terms let Tap keep an agreed balance for up to two years after you leave and withhold or delay payouts during reviews
  • – Trustpilot score of 1.7 from 155 reviews, with recent complaints about closed accounts, long fund holds and slow dispute handling
  • – Foreign-currency transactions carry a 2% to 5% FX premium on conversion
