Overview

Moov is a genuinely well-run infrastructure company with the most honest pricing page in payments, and if you are a software business embedding payments for your own customers it belongs on the shortlist next to Finix, Tilled and Payrix. It is not a merchant account and not for merchants: the $500 monthly minimum, the developer-first product surface and the interchange-plus construction all say the buyer is an engineering team. The grade reflects a young company with a narrow, well-executed proposition rather than any specific failing.

Best for: Vertical SaaS and platform businesses that need to accept payments on behalf of their own users and then move money back out — construction, loan servicing, fundraising, transportation and dispatch, small-business software, digital banking. Particularly strong where the requirement is not just acceptance but the full loop of accept, hold, and pay out, which is normally three vendors and three reconciliation problems.

Strengths

  • + The pricing page is a complete rate card — card, ACH, instant payout, wallets, KYC, verification, international surcharge and the monthly minimum are all published. Almost nothing else in embedded payments does this.
  • + Card pricing is interchange plus rather than a blended rate, so the cost structure is visible and a platform can see exactly what its markup sits on top of.
  • + Accept, store, send and spend run on one API and one ledger. Replacing a processor, a bank partner, a payouts vendor and an issuer with a single integration removes an entire class of reconciliation work.
  • + Instant payout support over RTP, FedNow and push-to-card, priced at 0.95% with a $5 cap, which is unusually generous — a $5,000 payout costs the same $5 as a $600 one.
  • + Strategic and top-tier institutional backing across three named rounds totalling about $77.5 million: a $5.5 million seed led by Bain Capital Ventures in August 2020, a $27 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in December 2020, and a $45 million Series B led by Commerce Ventures in January 2023 with Visa participating.
  • + More than fifty open-source projects under moov.io, covering ACH, Fedwire, ISO 8583 and OFAC list matching. A prospective customer can read the company's engineering before signing anything, which is rare in payments.

Trade-offs

  • – The $500 monthly minimum makes Moov unsuitable for a small merchant or an early-stage platform with little volume — it is effectively a $6,000 annual floor before any transaction economics.
  • – United States only. There is no international acceptance story, which rules Moov out for any platform with cross-border customers.
  • – This is developer infrastructure, not a merchant account. There is no path for an ordinary business to sign up and start taking cards without building against an API.
  • – Public funding totals disagree: three named rounds sum to roughly $77.5 million, while some aggregators report figures as high as $149 million, and no valuation has been disclosed. Treat any single cited total with caution.
  • – The company is young and privately held with no published customer count, volume or financials, so a platform betting its payment stack on Moov is making a judgement on a private company it cannot fully inspect.
  • – It sits in the most crowded segment in payments — Stripe Connect, Finix, Payrix, Tilled, Adyen for Platforms and Unit are all chasing the same buyer, several with far deeper capital.

Fees in detail

  • Online rate: Interchange plus 0.60% and 15 cents per online card transaction. International cards add 1.5%.
  • Contract: Not published as a fixed term. The published commercial commitment is the $500 monthly minimum with no setup fee; Moov states that high-volume customers can negotiate custom pricing.

Standard published rate for a domestic online card payment. Confirm current pricing on Moov's pricing page.
