Overview

$48

Best for: Existing Squarespace merchants on the Plus or Advanced plans, where the 2.7% and 2.5% rates make a real difference on volume, and any Squarespace store owner who values one dashboard over the flexibility of a separate Stripe account. It suits sellers of physical goods, digital products, memberships and donations with ordinary risk profiles and no need to move the processor to another platform later.

Strengths

  • + Fully published pricing for every country and plan, down to the ACH cap and the dispute fee, on a help page that carries a last-updated date — rarer than it should be in this industry.
  • + A real rate cut on the higher plans: 2.7% + 30¢ on Plus and 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced against the 2.9% + 30¢ Stripe charges a Squarespace merchant directly, and no platform transaction fee on physical goods above Basic.
  • + Runs on Stripe as processing partner, so authorisation, card vaulting and dispute handling sit on infrastructure that is already the industry's benchmark rather than something built from scratch.
  • + Daily payouts arriving in one to two business days in the US, instant payouts available at 1.5%, and a $20 dispute fee that is refunded if you win.
  • + No contract, no monthly fee beyond the website plan, and nothing to cancel: disable it in the Finance panel, and payouts, refunds and disputes keep working after the site expires.
  • + Broad geographic coverage for a website builder's processor — the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and ten eurozone countries — with local rates that in the UK, Europe and Australia are lower than the US ones.

Trade-offs

  • – On Basic and Core — the plans most Squarespace merchants are on — the card rate is exactly Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢, so switching from a connected Stripe account saves nothing and gives up portability.
  • – Risk holds are the recurring complaint: merchants describe funds held for weeks, stated 60- or 90-day holds on a percentage of balance, and identity checks that pass without releasing the money. Squarespace's own documentation confirms that account status and risk reviews can delay payouts and says nothing about how long.
  • – Support is chat and email only. There is no phone number and no published escalation route for a payments problem, which is the worst possible shape when the problem is money you cannot reach.
  • – It is inseparable from Squarespace. Leave the platform and the processor, the saved payment methods and the subscription billing do not come with you, whereas a direct Stripe account would.
  • – Not available for Acuity Scheduling, so a service business taking bookings through Acuity keeps a separate processor for them; and in-person acceptance is limited to Tap to Pay on a phone in the US and UK, with no card reader of its own — the Square Reader in the app is processed by Square.
  • – The parent company's independent record is mixed: 3.5 on Trustpilot from 5,237 reviews with 41% one-star, and 440 BBB complaints in three years against an A+ rating. Those cover the whole of Squarespace, not just payments, and should be read that way.
