Overview

If your books are already in QuickBooks Online, this is the least-effort way to get paid, and Intuit has quietly become price-competitive: 2.5% flat in person undercuts Square and Stripe on card-present volume, 1% ACH is at the market floor, and there is no monthly fee, no minimum and no contract. The reason it is a B rather than higher is risk-management behaviour. Intuit underwrites merchants lightly at signup and reviews them afterwards, which produces a steady stream of merchants whose deposits stop with no notice while a review runs — and the support experience when that happens is the weakest part of the product. Take it for the reconciliation, but do not make it your only route to cash.

Best for: Service businesses, contractors, consultancies and small trades that already run QuickBooks Online and invoice their customers — this is where the product is genuinely excellent, because the payment, the invoice and the ledger entry are one object. It is also strong for anyone who can push customers to ACH at 1%, and for a small retailer or mobile business that wants 2.5% card-present with no monthly fee and Tap to Pay on iPhone rather than a terminal.

Strengths

  • + The rates are published in full and dated: 2.5% in person, 2.99% for invoices and digital wallets, 1% ACH, 3.5% keyed, 2.99% for Affirm buy-now-pay-later, as of 30 April 2026.
  • + 2.5% flat card-present with no per-transaction cent charge is genuinely competitive. On Intuit's own published comparison it undercuts Square at 2.6% plus 10 cents and Stripe at 2.7% plus 5 cents on the same in-person sale, and the gap widens on small tickets.
  • + 1% ACH with no cap makes large invoices cheap to collect, and it is offered on the same invoice the customer already received.
  • + No monthly fee for Payments, no processing minimum and no long-term contract — the commitment is the QuickBooks Online subscription you already have, not the payments service.
  • + Reconciliation is not a feature, it is the absence of a problem. Payments post against invoices in the ledger that produced them, so deposits, fees and customer balances agree by construction.
  • + Next-business-day deposits for most card, PayPal, Venmo and ACH payments processed before 3 PM Pacific, with instant deposit available for 1.75% including nights and weekends.

Trade-offs

  • – Fund holds are the recurring theme in merchant complaints: deposits stopped for a risk review, often without proactive notice, sometimes on the merchant's largest payments. Intuit's merchant terms explicitly permit suspending service and withholding settlement funds.
  • – Support quality is the most common complaint after holds, and there is no dedicated merchant-services escalation path distinct from general QuickBooks support.
  • – You need QuickBooks Online to get the value. In-person payments and recurring payments require the Simple Start plan or above, so the true cost includes a subscription starting at $38 a month at list price.
  • – 3.5% for keyed cards is expensive and there is no interchange-plus option at any volume — the only published discount is the up-to-25% offer for merchants above $2,500 a month, negotiated by phone.
  • – The chargeback fee is $25, published in the QuickBooks Online Terms of Service rather than on the pricing page that carries every other number.
  • – New accounts are slow to fund: Intuit says the first batch takes up to 5 business days and ACH takes longer during the first month, which is exactly when a new business can least afford it.
