Overview

$46

Best for: Nonprofits, schools and foundations already on Blackbaud software that want donations, tuition and event revenue to reconcile automatically inside the CRM; organizations that receive many recurring gifts and value the included credit card updater; multi-country charities that need settlement in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD or NZD from one vendor; fundraisers who will enable Donor Cover or Complete Cover so that donors, not the organization, absorb most of the fees.

Strengths

  • + Payments post directly into the Blackbaud record — Raiser's Edge NXT, eTapestry, Luminate, Tuition Management — with settlement, reporting and chargeback handling in one portal, which is the whole reason to use it.
  • + A published fee schedule with no setup or monthly processing charge, no early-termination fee on the payments terms, and settlement in six currencies from one vendor.
  • + A credit card updater is included at no extra charge on US and Canadian dollar accounts, which matters for organizations living on monthly recurring gifts.
  • + Donor Cover and Complete Cover let donors absorb the processing cost; Blackbaud reports opt-in rates above 85% at participating organizations, and Complete Cover waives up to $3,000 a year of the organization's own fees.
  • + Stripe, Inc. is the designated processor under the August 2025 terms, so the money is handled by a major processor rather than by Blackbaud, which the terms state does not process, receive or hold funds.

Trade-offs

  • – Expensive for a nonprofit processor: 2.99% + $0.30 (up from 2.79% in August 2024) is above the nonprofit rates most general-purpose processors publish, and Blackbaud may add or amend fees on 30 days' posted notice.
  • – The Online Form Platform Fee, effective 1 July 2026, adds 1.5% (Raiser's Edge NXT, eTapestry) or 2% (NetCommunity, Online Express) of the gross gift on most online forms, explicitly in addition to processing — announced by email in May and June 2026 and imposed mid-contract under the fee-change clause.
  • – The payment enablement fee is charged to every customer with a payments-capable product, including organizations that process nothing through it, and Blackbaud does not publish the amount.
  • – The 2020 ransomware breach and its aftermath: a $49.5 million settlement with 49 states and DC (October 2023), a $3 million SEC penalty for misleading disclosures (March 2023), a $6.8 million California judgment (June 2024) and an FTC order requiring a data-security programme and data deletion (May 2024). The consolidated consumer class action in South Carolina was denied class certification in 2024, and Blackbaud's 2025 annual report says every consumer class action in the US and Canada has since been resolved, with two insurer subrogation suits still open.
  • – Blackbaud's BBB profile is rated D- for failing to respond to 22 complaints, with 25 complaints in three years, several from nonprofits describing three-year auto-renewals they say they never agreed to; Trustpilot shows 2.0 from 16 reviews. Both cover the company as a whole, not the payments product alone.
  • – Funding is cycle-based — daily or four times a month, with a five-business-day wait on ACH — and there is no expedited option; several other platforms on this site fund next business day.
