Best for: US small and mid-sized businesses that already bank or borrow with Newtek, or want a single regulated counterparty for banking, SBA lending, payroll and payments and will trade some pricing transparency for that consolidation.

Strengths

  • + A regulated, publicly reported parent. NewtekOne trades on Nasdaq, files with the SEC, and has owned an FDIC-insured national bank since January 2023 — so its financial condition is verifiable rather than asserted, which is not true of most processors this size.
  • + Genuine service consolidation: business deposits, SBA and commercial lending, payroll and benefits, insurance, IT and card processing from one group. For an owner tired of managing five vendors, that is a real saving in time.
  • + Third-party reviewers report a two-year term with no cancellation fee, which is materially better than the three-year contracts with $250–$500 exit fees that agent-sold competitors typically use.
  • + A published rate-match commitment — reported as matching or beating your current processing rates or paying $250. Whatever else that is, it is an explicit invitation to negotiate, and you should take it.
  • + Reported entry pricing is competitive and structurally clear: NewtPay at 2.85% + $0.28 with no monthly fee, NewtPay PRO at 2.19% + $0.26 for $15 a month, and no setup fee on either. Two plans that differ on a single trade-off are easy to model against your own volume.
  • + It names its sponsor banks in its own footer — Westamerica, Wells Fargo, Fifth Third, Synovus and Elavon — so you can establish who actually holds the acquiring relationship.

Trade-offs

  • – No published pricing anywhere on Newtek's own site. Every rate figure in circulation comes from third-party review sites, and none of it is dated or guaranteed.
  • – Undisclosed fees are the single most consistent complaint. BBB customer reviews on the NewtekOne profile describe being charged after being told there would be no charges, and independent reviewers report the same pattern.
  • – Cancellation difficulty appears repeatedly in complaint narratives, including billing that continued for returned equipment. A no-cancellation-fee contract does not help if closing the account is the hard part.
  • – There is a serious historical regulatory matter. In May 2015 the FTC obtained a final order against Universal Processing Services of Wisconsin LLC, doing business as Newtek Merchant Solutions, requiring $1.7 million in restitution over payments it processed for the 'Treasure Your Success' robocall credit-card-interest-reduction scheme, on an assisting-and-facilitating theory under the Telemarketing Sales Rule. It is eleven years old and predates the bank, but it is the kind of underwriting failure worth knowing about.
  • – The payments business is shrinking. Segment noninterest income fell from $24.0m in the first half of 2025 to $22.3m in the first half of 2026 — about 7% — and the consolidated electronic payment processing income line fell 4.9%, while the group as a whole grew and Banking segment net income tripled. Payments is not where NewtekOne's attention is.
  • – Aggressive outbound sales is a recurring criticism, with merchants reporting repeated calls from Newtek representatives.
