Overview

Basys is the kind of processor that gets recommended by a bank, an accountant or a trade association rather than found in a search, and on the evidence it earns those referrals: 24 years in business, an A+ BBB rating held since 2014, almost no complaint history, next-day funding, and a support operation it is confident enough about to publish response metrics for. The catch is the same one that catches every referral-channel ISO. Its pricing page promises total transparency and then shows nothing — no rate, no monthly fee, no contract term, no cancellation policy — and what you actually pay is the outcome of a statement-analysis meeting in which the other side knows considerably more than you do. B is the right grade: a genuinely low-risk operator to deal with, sold on a model that makes the price unknowable until you are already in the process.

Best for: Small and mid-sized businesses that want a named person to call rather than a support portal, and that value reliability over the last few basis points — professional services, healthcare and veterinary practices, accounting and bookkeeping firms, construction, automotive and independent retail. It is a natural fit for anyone who bills through QuickBooks or an ERP, anyone who wants to run surcharging or a cash-discount program properly, and anyone who has arrived through a bank, credit union or association referral where the relationship is part of what is being bought.

Strengths

  • + An A+ Better Business Bureau rating held since accreditation in March 2014, with essentially no complaint volume on file — an unusually clean record for a merchant-services company of 24 years.
  • + Next-day funding as a stated standard rather than an upsell, which matters more to a small business's cash position than a few basis points on the rate.
  • + Support commitments specific enough to hold the company to: US-based and in-house, 99% of calls answered within three rings, 90% of issues resolved on the first call, and explicitly not a phone tree.
  • + It says plainly what it is. The footer discloses registered ISO status with Citizens Bank, KeyBank, PNC Bank and Merrick Bank, which many resellers bury or omit entirely.
  • + Surcharging and cash-discount programs are offered as supported products rather than left to the merchant, which is the right way to run a compliance-sensitive cost-recovery scheme.
  • + Real integration coverage for the businesses it targets: its own IQ Pro gateway, QuickBooks, ERP and eCommerce connections, developer resources, and a healthcare practice reaching Epic.

Trade-offs

  • – The pricing page is headed 'Total Pricing Transparency' and publishes no prices — no rate, no monthly fee, no setup fee, no hardware cost. Transparency here means a personalised statement review, not published pricing.
  • – No published contract terms either. Length, auto-renewal, notice period and any early-termination fee are absent from the site, so they are whatever your agreement says.
  • – The savings claims are marketing arithmetic: average monthly savings of $142 to $1,343 depending on the incumbent, and 76% to 98% of businesses reviewed finding savings, self-reported and drawn from accounts already processing $10,000 or more a month.
  • – Third-party reviewers report tiered-looking figures from merchant statements — around 2.60% swiped and 3.55% keyed, with a batch fee near $0.35 and an annual fee near $41.95 — but that comes from one review publisher and Basys publishes nothing to confirm or refute it. Ask for interchange-plus in writing.
  • – It is a reseller rather than a processor, sponsored by four banks, which adds a party to any escalation that reaches the settlement layer.
  • – The single BBB customer review on file is a one-star account of a mishandled switchover with missing deposits and unreliable terminals. One review proves nothing on its own, but it names the failure mode worth asking about.
