Overview

Merchant Lynx publishes its own contract, which is the most useful thing about it, because the contract is the review. A three-year initial term that renews for another three years unless you give 90 days' written notice, a $495 early-termination fee that also applies if you simply stop sending volume, a reserve the bank can establish at its sole discretion, and mandatory individual arbitration with a class-action waiver — that is the deal, in Merchant Lynx's own words. Set against that is a company that has been operating since 1999, has real product breadth for a mid-market ISO, and does have satisfied customers. But an F from the Better Business Bureau with accreditation revoked for not answering complaints, alongside two merchant class actions in three years alleging undisclosed fee stacking, is a pattern rather than an accident. C is a functioning processor whose commercial terms are set up to make leaving expensive.

Best for: Established businesses with the leverage to negotiate and the discipline to hold a vendor to written terms — a multi-site restaurant group, an auto dealer, a healthcare practice — that want a single account manager for processing, POS, gift cards and check services and are prepared to strike the auto-renewal and the termination fee before signing. Merchant Lynx's industry-specific work in automotive and its Lynx POS hardware are genuine offerings, and merchants who negotiated well and never needed to leave report good service.

Strengths

  • + It publishes its own merchant agreement, Clover terms and equipment lease agreement on its public website — rare in this corner of the industry, and it lets any merchant read the real terms before a sales appointment rather than after.
  • + A long operating history: the Better Business Bureau records the underlying business as starting in April 1999, which makes it one of the older independent ISOs still operating under its own brand.
  • + Real product breadth for a mid-market ISO — its own Lynx POS system, Clover, check guarantee, digital check imaging, gift cards and cash advance under one account manager.
  • + Check guarantee and check imaging are genuinely differentiated. Most modern processors have abandoned checks entirely, and they still matter in B2B, automotive, government and non-profit.
  • + Industry-specific programs, including work with automotive dealer associations, which means the sales team understands some verticals properly rather than pitching a generic rate.
  • + There are satisfied long-term merchants, and the company's own published testimonials describe attentive account management — the service experience is not uniformly bad, it is the contract that is.

Trade-offs

  • – The default contract is three years and renews automatically for another three unless you give written notice at least 90 days before the term ends. Miss that window and the next exit is three years away.
  • – The $495 early-termination fee is not just for cancelling. The agreement makes it due if you merely stop submitting a material amount of transactions, and allows it to be deducted directly from your settlements.
  • – The Better Business Bureau rates the business F and revoked its accreditation, citing failure to respond to 15 of the 54 complaints filed in three years. Ignoring complaints is a choice, not an outcome.
  • – Two merchant class actions in three years — Maxine Furs of Hoover in 2023 and Catered Fit Corp in 2025 — both alleging that a simple headline rate was followed by undisclosed and unnegotiated fees once merchants were locked into long-term contracts.
  • – Rates are not published and sit on a Schedule A the bank may amend at its sole discretion, so the number quoted at signing is not contractually fixed for the term.
  • – Equipment leases are separate and expressly non-cancelable for the stated term, with an interim payment before the lease even starts, a $50 charge on each payment needing collection effort, and a fair-market-value buyout at the end.
