Overview

Gravity is one of the few merchant services companies that will tell you a price without a sales call — 2.5% + $0.10 on qualified in-person transactions, on its own pricing page — and one of fewer still whose statements pass interchange and assessments at cost with the markup shown separately. Add an A+ BBB rating held since 2005 with one complaint in three years, 24/7 US-based support and a real device range, and you have a provider that is easy to recommend to an independent business that values knowing where it stands. Two things keep it out of the A range. Independent auditors who compare quotes find Gravity's markup higher than competing offers, so transparent does not mean cheap. And in August 2025 a vulnerability at a third-party CRM vendor exposed Social Security numbers, banking details, dates of birth and login credentials for more than 22,000 people; notifications went out in February 2026 and a proposed class action followed.

Best for: Independent, owner-operated US businesses — restaurants, retail, veterinary and dental practices, HVAC and trades, bridal, law firms — that want a published rate, a statement they can actually read, and support staffed by people in the same country and time zone.

Strengths

  • + A published flat rate on its own website — 2.5% + $0.10 on qualified in-person transactions — with an explicit, unhidden caveat that software-integrated and card-not-present transactions may not qualify.
  • + Genuinely transparent statements. Independent reviewers who have examined real Gravity statements confirm interchange and card-network assessments are passed at cost with the company's markup posted as a separate line item, which is the only format in which you can audit a processor.
  • + An A+ BBB rating held continuously since 2005, with one complaint in the last three years. Twenty years of accreditation and a near-empty complaint file is the strongest formal record of any provider in this size bracket we have reviewed.
  • + 24/7 US-based, multilingual support with a stated average wait of 36 seconds. Support quality is where most merchant services relationships actually fail, and Gravity has built its reputation on this rather than on rate.
  • + A real, published hardware range — Clover Flex, Mini and Station Duo, PAX A920, S300 and S80, FD150, SwipeSimple B250 — rather than a single locked-in terminal.
  • + Vertical depth built over two decades: Gravity Legal for law firms, Poppy Bridal for bridal retailers, Portals for self-service payment presentment, plus long-standing integrations in veterinary, dental, HVAC and outdoor power equipment.

Trade-offs

  • – A serious 2025 data breach. Washington's Attorney General records an incident window of 12 to 23 August 2025, reported 4 February 2026, exposing Social Security numbers, financial and banking information, full dates of birth, and usernames with passwords and security answers — 677 Washington residents among 22,278 people in total across the state regulator filings. Gravity's review of the affected files was completed on 15 January 2026 and notifications went out on 4 February. A proposed class action followed in Washington federal court that month.
  • – The breach reached data far more sensitive than card numbers — SSNs and banking credentials — through a vulnerability in a third-party CRM vendor. Vendor risk is still your provider's responsibility, and roughly five and a half months elapsed between the incident and notification: the file review completed on 15 January 2026 and letters went out on 4 February.
  • – Transparent is not the same as cheap. Independent reviewers who compare competitive quotes report Gravity's markup running significantly higher than rival offers on the same volume.
  • – Contract length, early termination fee and monthly fees are not published, despite transparency being the company's central marketing claim. BBB complaint text references a three-year contract and termination fees.
  • – No published funding schedule or batch cut-off. 'Fast funding' is marketing, not a timetable, and settlement timing is one of the two or three things a merchant most needs to plan around.
  • – The online rate is unpublished. The flat rate covers qualified in-person transactions only, so an ecommerce-heavy business gets none of the transparency benefit and has to negotiate like anywhere else.
