Overview

SpotOn sells a genuinely good restaurant platform with support that merchants rate higher than they rate most of its competitors, and it publishes its plan rates, which not every POS company does. What you are buying alongside it is a two-year commitment on the headline plan, cancellation terms the company does not publish, and a demonstrated willingness to raise rates on merchants already under contract. Price the deal on the assumption that your rate will move, and do not sign until the exit terms are in front of you.

Best for: Independent and small-group restaurants that want one vendor for POS, online ordering, reservations, loyalty and payments, value hands-on support, and are comfortable with a two-year term.

Strengths

  • + Publishes real plan rates — 2.45% + $0.15 and 2.79% + $0.20 card-present — rather than making every merchant request a quote.
  • + Rapid Fund settles in under 30 minutes after batch-out, 365 days a year, for 0.2% per deposit; standard next-morning funding is included at no extra cost.
  • + Support is the thing merchants consistently single out, by name, across Trustpilot and third-party review sites — unusual in a category where support is the most common complaint.
  • + A+ BBB rating, accredited since August 2018, with the company responding to complaints on the record.
  • + One vendor covers POS, online ordering, reservations, labour, loyalty and marketing, which removes a stack of integrations a small restaurant would otherwise maintain.
  • + The POS Essentials plan is month-to-month, so there is a route onto the platform that does not require a multi-year commitment.

Trade-offs

  • – The All-In plan carries a two-year minimum term, and SpotOn publishes no early termination fee anywhere — the cost of leaving is whatever your signed agreement says.
  • – The All-In plan's $0 hardware and $0 software are paid for by processing minimums, which SpotOn notes but does not quantify anywhere. If your volume falls short, the shortfall is billed to you — ask for the minimum in dollars before choosing that plan.
  • – Rates have been raised on existing merchants. One industry cost-consulting firm reports a 0.15% increase on Visa, Mastercard and Discover and 0.35% on Amex OptBlue effective 1 May 2026. We could not corroborate those figures from a second independent source or from SpotOn, so treat them as reported rather than confirmed — but do assume your rate can move mid-term.
  • – 41 complaints were filed with the BBB in the last three years, 14 of them in the last twelve months — a rising rather than falling trend.
  • – 2026 BBB complaints describe a 30-day cancellation notice and merchants being billed the full retail price of hardware on early exit, including in cases where the installation itself had failed.
  • – SpotOn's payment-processing page quotes the American Express per-item fee two ways on that one page — $0.25 under "Preferred Processing Plan", $0.15 under "POS Essentials". A small discrepancy, but it is on published pricing.
