Overview

Housecall Pro's processing is fairly priced for its market and, on paper, slightly cheaper than Jobber's for cards tapped in the field: 2.59% with no per-transaction cents beats 2.7% + 30¢ on any ticket, and 1% ACH is standard. The costs sit at the edges — 3.49% for anything keyed or on file and for every American Express or business card, a $25 dispute fee that is nearly double the platform norm, $5 a month per Tap to Pay device, and a 1% Instapay surcharge with a further $0.75 on small tickets. What holds the grade down is the operating record. The company answers 95% of negative Trustpilot reviews and still scores 2.4 from 638 of them; the 76 BBB complaints in three years are dominated by billing after cancellation and price rises without notice; and cancellation itself requires a phone call with a retention team. Good software for a growing HVAC or plumbing outfit, but go in with a copy of the rate card and cancel by email as well as by chat.

Best for: US home-service businesses of five to fifty technicians that want scheduling, dispatch, invoicing, consumer financing and card acceptance in one app, tap cards in the field rather than keying them, and can live inside a platform whose subscription is the main cost.

Strengths

  • + Card-present pricing is genuinely competitive for the segment: 2.59% flat with no per-transaction cents on cards tapped, dipped or swiped in the field, which beats 2.7% + 30¢ on any ticket size.
  • + A complete published rate card, including the awkward numbers — 3.49% keyed, 3.49% Amex, 4.99% BNPL, $25 disputes — so there is no surprise on the statement if you read the help centre first.
  • + Payment options a home-service customer actually asks for: ACH at 1%, PayPal and Venmo on the invoice, Klarna and PayPal Pay Later, point-of-sale consumer financing for big-ticket jobs and free mobile check deposit.
  • + No long-term contract — monthly or annual, auto-renewing, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first month's subscription — and a 14-day trial of the top plan without a card.
  • + Instapay moves money in about 30 minutes, to a bank account directly where the bank supports real-time payments, with a $50,000 per-transaction ceiling that is generous for the category.

Trade-offs

  • – Everything that is not tapped in the field costs more: 2.99% online, 3.49% for keyed, card-on-file and scanned cards, and 3.49% for every American Express and business card — a material surcharge for contractors billing commercial clients.
  • – The $25 dispute fee is nearly double what comparable platforms charge, and Tap to Pay carries a $5 per active device monthly charge that Jobber and most rivals do not levy.
  • – Payout complaints are constant and current: ACH sitting pending for a week past payroll, card funds held four days before a materials order, a homeowner's $3,250 deposit not released to the contractor — with the support path a chat bot and a callback.
  • – Support is the weakest part of the record — a 2.4 TrustScore from 638 reviews despite a 95% reply rate, 76 BBB complaints in three years, and reviewers who cannot reach a person by phone.
  • – Cancellation is not the 'simple and hassle-free' process the pricing page promises: the help centre says it is finalised only after a retention call with the account owner, and the BBB record is full of accounts billed for months after a cancellation request.
  • – The subscription is the real cost and can move: pricing can be revised at any time effective on notice, and a September 2026 review reports a MAX bill rising from $351 to $681 a month without warning.
