Overview

Best for: Small and mid-sized businesses on the US East Coast that already hold a TD business checking account and want next-business-day settlement into it; retailers and restaurants that want Clover hardware with a bank relationship attached; and owners who value walking into a branch over negotiating with an ISO's sales agent.

Strengths

  • + The lowest headline in-person rate among the big-bank programs we cover: 2.5% + $0.15 for swiped, tapped and chip payments, against the 2.6% that Chase, PNC, Wells Fargo and Bank of America quote; the 3.5% + $0.15 keyed and online rate is in line with Wells Fargo and Bank of America.
  • + Next-business-day funding by 6 AM ET into a TD settlement account with the standard setup, with no expedited-funding surcharge.
  • + Clover hardware across the range — Go, Flex, Mini, Station, Station Duo and Kiosk — plus FD150 and Ingenico terminals, with a free device worth $179 to $1,025 under the offer running to 31 October 2026.
  • + A real banking benefit: an active Merchant Solutions account is one of the ways to waive the $30 monthly fee on TD Business Premier Checking.
  • + 24/7 customer support by phone, and the option of walking into one of the bank's branches on the East Coast rather than dealing only with an ISO's call centre.
  • + Backed by a large bank that is a regulated counterparty for settlement rather than a thinly capitalised reseller, with a parent group that continues to invest in the US franchise.

Trade-offs

  • – A three-year processing agreement. TD's own footnote says an account terminated early is charged the value of the device, solution or credit it received, and third-party reviewers also report a $495 early-termination fee and auto-renewal on the underlying Fiserv agreement.
  • – The published rates are flat rates, not interchange-plus. At 2.5% + $0.15 in person and 3.5% + $0.15 keyed or online, a merchant with meaningful volume or a debit-heavy mix will pay more than on a cost-plus account, and the 3.5% non-swipe rate is high for e-commerce.
  • – Fees TD does not publish. PCI compliance, gateway and monthly charges appear only in third-party reviews (which report $19.95 a month for PCI and for the Payeezy Pro plan), and TD's page defers to the Member Merchant Agreement for processing fees and assessments.
  • – The next-day-funding promise is conditional on a TD settlement account and TD's standard setup; TD says availability varies with the gateway and services chosen, including a non-TD settlement account.
  • – It is a Fiserv program wearing a bank's badge. The processing, hardware and gateway are Fiserv's, and Fiserv's merchant business carries a large BBB complaint volume and a long record of pricing-transparency and support complaints that a TD merchant inherits.
  • – The bank itself is under a Department of Justice plea agreement: TD Bank, N.A. pleaded guilty in October 2024 to Bank Secrecy Act and money-laundering conspiracy charges, paid about $3.09 billion in combined penalties and accepted an indefinite cap on its US assets. None of it concerns card processing, but it is the entity on the contract.
