Overview

$44

Best for: UK hospitality and retail businesses taking payments in person, particularly those already running an EPOS system Dojo integrates with, and those for whom next-day settlement over a weekend materially helps cash flow. The published Fix plan suits a small business doing roughly £2,500 to £8,000 a month on cards, where £39.99 plus 1% above £3,999 works out competitive. Larger merchants who can negotiate — and who ask for the full fee schedule alongside the headline rate — will find the platform itself is the strongest part of the offer.

Strengths

  • + Next-day settlement seven days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, on Dojo's own acquiring platform — a cash-flow advantage for hospitality and retail that most UK acquirers still do not match.
  • + A published small-business price. The Fix plan — £39.99 a month for the first £3,999 of monthly card turnover, then 1% — is a real number in a market where most terminal providers publish nothing.
  • + Strong, specific independent feedback: 4.2 on Trustpilot from 5,612 reviews, 88% five-star, with 810 reviews in the last twelve months, and reviewers naming individual sales and support staff rather than praising in generalities.
  • + It is the acquirer, not a reseller. After a decade as an ISO for First Data, Paymentsense built its own cloud-native acquiring platform under the Dojo brand and now claims 12.5% of UK small-business card-present volume, so the contract and the settlement are both with the company you deal with.
  • + Integrations with more than 450 EPOS systems, which is the practical difference between a card machine that knows the bill and one that needs the amount typed in again.
  • + FCA-authorised (FRN 738728) and licensed under the Electronic Money Regulations, with a documented complaints route to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Trade-offs

  • – Above £100,000 a year in card turnover — which is most established businesses — pricing is negotiated and unpublished, so you cannot benchmark your quote against anyone else's.
  • – A 12-month minimum term, and Dojo's own fee schedule says closing early means paying the remaining card-machine service fees for the rest of it. That is a real early-termination cost even though the website does not use the phrase.
  • – The Fix plan punishes very low volume: £39.99 is due whether or not you take a payment, so a business doing £1,000 a month is paying an effective 4% when pay-as-you-go rivals would charge around 1.7%.
  • – An ancillary fee schedule that only surfaces on signing — £28 plus VAT per chargeback, £15 plus VAT a month for not attesting PCI compliance, £3.50 for paper billing, £15 for a failed direct debit, and up to £400 for an unreturned or damaged terminal.
  • – Heavy leverage for a company serving small merchants. Accounts analysed by the trade publication Business of Payments show net debt of £649m at an effective interest rate of about 14% at March 2025, accumulated losses of £720m, and a pre-tax loss of £75m despite £455m of revenue. A $190m equity injection from Vitruvian Partners in 2025 eased but did not remove that pressure.
  • – The company's own website is behind aggressive bot protection that blocked every automated attempt to read it for this review; the pricing above was taken from an archived copy of Dojo's pricing page and from Dojo's published fee-schedule and operating-guide PDFs, corroborated by guides updated in 2026.
