Overview

Segpay is a serious, long-established high-risk biller: twenty-one years in continuous operation, an A+ BBB rating held under accreditation since 2012, formal registration with both Visa and Mastercard, PCI Level 1 service provider status, and a settlement process it documents openly. It is one of a small number of processors that will underwrite adult, cam and dating businesses without theatre. What you give up is price visibility — nothing is published — and you accept weekly rather than daily settlement by design.

Best for: Subscription, adult, cam, dating, streaming and digital-content businesses in the US, EU, UK or Australia that need an underwriter willing to take the category and billing infrastructure built for trials, rebills and cancellations.

Strengths

  • + Twenty-one years of continuous operation in verticals where processors routinely appear, get shut off by a sponsor bank and vanish.
  • + A+ BBB rating, accredited since 15 June 2012, with a modest complaint record for a consumer-facing biller: 23 complaints in three years and 6 in the last twelve months.
  • + Formally registered with Visa as an internet payment service provider and with Mastercard as a payment facilitator, and a PCI Level 1 service provider — the compliance posture is stated on the record rather than implied.
  • + Publishes its settlement mechanics in unusual detail: weekly payouts from safeguarding accounts, by ACH, SEPA or Paxum, in USD, euros or GBP, with the currency switchable.
  • + Offers both payment facilitation for merchants who cannot get their own acquiring and direct merchant accounts for those who can, so growth does not force a move.
  • + Subscription billing is native rather than bolted on — free-trial validation, mid-trial instant conversions, one-click repeat purchases and dynamic cart pricing.

Trade-offs

  • – No rates published anywhere. Segpay's site carries no fee schedule, no pricing page and no indicative numbers — you cannot model your cost before applying.
  • – Payouts are weekly, not daily. Segpay explains this as a way to keep your transfer costs down, and for a subscription business it is defensible, but it is slower than most mainstream processors.
  • – 3.1 on Trustpilot across 1,864 reviews, on a profile the company does not solicit for and has not replied to negative reviews on.
  • – Segpay's name rather than the merchant's often appears on the cardholder statement, which is a known driver of 'I don't recognise this charge' disputes.
  • – Segpay's own site disagrees with itself about where it is: the About page says the company is headquartered in Deerfield Beach, while the footer on its solutions pages gives a Boca Raton address. Its BBB profile still lists the Deerfield Beach address.
  • – No published contract length, notice period, reserve policy or early termination terms — all of it has to be extracted during underwriting.
