Overview

$46

Best for: US home-services contractors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, fencing, garage doors, pest control) on Housecall Pro, Jobber or another integrated platform, with tickets from about $1,000 to $65,000 where financing decides whether the job closes or shrinks. It also suits auto repair shops and dental, medical and veterinary practices that need a simple pay-over-time option up to $15,000.

Strengths

  • + The merchant fee is published and flat: 3.9% of the financed amount for home services and auto repair, with no setup or monthly fee. Many point-of-sale lenders only quote on application, including Sunbit, which we also review.
  • + It is built into the software contractors already use. Housecall Pro and Jobber both offer it, and Jobber adds monthly-payment options automatically to residential quotes between $500 and $65,000.
  • + Customer-friendly terms by the category's standards: a soft credit check to see offers, no deferred interest, no prepayment penalty and no origination fee. Terms run up to 10 years and loans up to $65,000 in home services.
  • + Payment follows the job. The customer releases funds when the work is done and the business gets them by ACH in 1 to 3 business days, while Progress Payments can release up to half up front on qualifying jobs.
  • + Customers who finish a loan tend to rate it well: 4.8 out of 5 from 936 Trustpilot reviews, with the application's speed and helpful support staff the recurring themes.

Trade-offs

  • – Financing is dearer than a card sale. At 3.9%, a $12,000 job costs $468 in fees, and a 24-month 0% offer on the top add-on plan costs $1,188. Wisetack's help centre says passing that cost to the customer as a surcharge breaks the merchant agreement.
  • – The merchant carries the after-sale risk. A customer can open a dispute up to 60 days after confirming the loan, Wisetack can pull the disputed funds from your bank account while it investigates, and you reimburse any refund it grants.
  • – Prequalification is only an estimate. Several BBB and Trustpilot reviewers with good credit say the final offer was smaller or dearer than the prequalified one, which can leave the contractor explaining a changed deal at the kitchen table.
  • – Loan servicing is split across lenders. Depending on who made the loan, the customer pays U.S. Bank, Happen Bank, Citizens Pay, Launch or Wisetack itself, and Wisetack's help pages warn borrowers not to send other lenders' payments to Wisetack. Billing mix-ups are a recurring theme in BBB complaints.
  • – It is US-only, the minimum loan is $500, and auto, dental, medical and veterinary financing tops out at $15,000 on shorter terms than home services.
